28th Week of Pregnancy

I received an email yesterday from Babycenter.com reminding me that I am entering into my 28th week of pregnancy today, and everything to expect...kind of funny.

William had a follow-up head scan today.  Everything looks stable right now, so it's really just a wait and see game to see if the enlarged ventricles affect him down the road.  After two stable scans, I asked the doctor if it was likely that anything would worsen at this point, and was comforted by the fact that it should stay stable.   William will probably stay on the CPAP for a while, due to his periodic breathing and apnea episodes.  He decided to stop breathing and drop his heart rate while I was holding him today, which was frightening.  The nurses got him going again but it did cut our cuddle time short.  I'd be really happy not to witness that again.  In more good William news, though, his feeds are increasing again and he should be completely off of the TPN in the next day or two.

Aaron had a follow-up ECHO for his PDA today.  The duct is still open, but we'll still wait with him to see if surgery is needed.  He's doing so well with his breathing and feeds that there's no point in subjecting him to surgery at this point.  If he stops tolerating the feeds or it gets bigger, the surgery discussion will come up again.  I did get good cuddle time in with him today :)  His next head ultrasound is Friday.

Let's hear it for the boys...they've come so far in such a short amount of time!

  1. Now I've got that song stuck in my head. Let's hear it for the boy(s)! I am so glad that they are doing so well. We continue to pray for all of you and send love and best wishes your way. Let us know if there is a point we can do anything else to help!

  2. Hi Conley's!
I am out of town, but you remain in my thoughts and prayers! I am delighted to read this post... The stable and increased feeding parts... I am curious if the boys have music or any sounds that might be peaceful... Bennett was several weeks early (no comparison-i realize) and ocean sounds (from a white noise machine) relaxed him. Praise God for good days and cpaps!

I am so proud of these little gents. They have truly come so far in such a short time. Their progress amazes me and I am sure comforts you both. The picture (big people included) is adorable - I bet they want to reach out and touch each other almost as much as you want to hold them together. (The comment about the 28th week gave me a chuckle - if only those folks knew!). Please call if you need anything. Love you all!

  4. Helen, it was so nice to meet you yesterday. Your boys are doing amazing and you are such a great mom! I know the episode you experienced with William yesterday was scary...we had those with Hannah pretty frequently, but know that periodic breathing and apnea are common issue with preemies since they have so much to learn so quickly! Continuing to pray for you all :)
